About Aspen Therapy
Savannah Henderson, LPCC
Founder - Aspen Therapy
Hi, I'm Savannah!
When I first began working as a clinician, I worked in childhood mental health and through that experience I saw how impactful our early years can be on our adult relationships and resiliency. I began integrating my education in child development and attachment theory with my work as a therapist and found my calling in helping adults understand how their early relationship with caregivers and family culture impacts their ability to feel secure in intimate relationships, establish boundaries and life balance, and feel empowered.
As a queer woman, I also wanted to create a practice that is inclusive of gender and sexual identity diversity. I have been in the uncomfortable position of sitting with a therapist and having to educate them on my queer experience, or having to correct misconceptions about how gender shows up in my relationships. In those moments, I gained a new appreciation for the ability to work with therapists that make a concentrated effort to expand their understanding of queerness and not confine the experiences of their clients into heteronormative labels. If your goal in starting or continuing therapy is to expand your understanding of yourself, strengthen your relationships, and increase your self-love, you are at the right place. In working with me, you will gain someone with compassion and empathy who will also provide motivation and accountability for you as you work towards your goals. The Right Fit:
Feeling connected and heard by your therapist is a crucial part of how effective therapy will be for you. In order to be vulnerable, you have to feel safe with your therapist. Not all therapists are the same; we vary in style, communication, and vibe. Here are some of my core values as a therapist that can help inform on who I am as a clinician and person:
Client Centered:
I believe that you are the best expert on yourself. I prioritize your needs and find an approach that works for you.
Compassionate:
Providing care without judgment, respecting your identity and experiences, and recognizing your autonomy.
Direct & Honest:
Being clear, honest, and open with you. Transparency fosters trust. I provide straight forward feedback in a supportive and growth-oriented way.
Humor:
I use humor to connect and bring levity to difficult moments. It's important to me that I feel human and genuine, not a closed-off AI therapist robot!
Therapy Style
I utilize an integrative approach to therapy--meaning I don't use just one type of therapy for my clients. Regardless of style or technique, I approach all my of work with empathy, non-judgment, and humor. There are a few styles that I bring to my work:
-
Humanistic Therapy: Emphasizing personal growth and self-actualization
-
Emotion-Focused Therapy: focusing on the role of your emotions in your experiences, communication, and relationships.
-
Solution-Focused Therapy: focuses on finding solutions to problems using your strengths and resources.
-
Behavioral Therapy: emphasizes identifying and changing unhelpful thought patterns and building coping skills.
-
Gottman Therapy & Couples Therapy Approaches: focusing on understanding relationships and improving communication and conflict resolution.
